The police are currently investigating a $250,000 copper theft in the Charlie Lake area, and are asking for the public’s help to catch the thief.

The Local RCMP received a report on February 4, stating nearly a quarter of a million dollars’ worth of copper had been stolen and stripped from a location on Lower Cache Creek Road in Charlie Lake, near the Alaska Highway.
The police believe the theft took place at the unmanned rural gas site intermittently between Nov. 26 and February 4 and are asking anyone with information regarding this matter to contact them at 250-787-8100. In the case you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online at www.northernbccrimestoppers.ca
"We're asking anyone who may have seen something suspicious or has dashcam or surveillance footage of suspicious activity in the area to contact us. With thefts like these, suspects usually spend a considerable amount of time at the site. Handling and hauling that amount of stolen material also makes the acts much more conspicuous," said Constable Christiaan Dreyer, Media Relations Officer with the Fort St. John RCMP.
With the theft believed to have taken place over several weeks, police are reminding residents that even small details could help move the investigation forward.
