A New Year’s Resolution from the Editor

Every January, some people like to make big promises to themselves. Eat better. Sleep more. Finally clean up my tools (this is the year, right?).

This year, my resolution is a little different.

My family is heading into a tough one. Our youngest son, Bensyn, has some big medical hurdles ahead, which means more time than I’d like to admit at BC Children’s Hospital and more coffee from hospital vending machines than any human should consume. It’s not how we planned to spend the year, but then again, when does life ever ask first?

What I can promise is this, I’m all in.

Even if part of my year is spent away from home, my heart, my focus, and my stubborn determination are right here, with this paper and with this community. The Alaska Highway News has always been about telling local stories, asking tough questions when needed, and celebrating the people who quietly keep the Peace Region running. That doesn’t change.

So my New Year’s resolution is simple, to keep showing up. Keep telling your stories. Keep this paper honest, local, and worth picking up, even if it occasionally smells like fresh ink and bad coffee.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for supporting local journalism. And thank you for sticking with us as we head into another year together.
