A local vendor was fighting the heat and handing freezies out to kids during a heatwave in Fort St. John last week.

Hailey and Joe of Big Top Treats were fighting the heat at Centennial Park on July 11, providing frozen treats for the community

Big Top Treats is a locally owned frozen treat vendor, operating here in the Peace while keeping the community cool during the hot summer.

During the recent heatwave that swept the Peace, Big Top Treats was handing out freezies for the kids trying to keep cool at Centennial Park and the Rotary Spray Park.

“Every day we bought a box of mini freezies and gave them out for free,” said Joe, one the business owners. “I was poor when I was a kid, and lots of times my parents would take me to the park because it was something fun to do and they didn’t have a lot of money. There were always kids who had treats and stuff, but we could never afford it. Some parents come here cause times are rough right now and this is the fun thing they can do, so we try and make sure every kid gets a treat.”

“The first summer that we started we were pedaling around the neighborhoods, then we got our standing vendor license from the city. This year is our first year at this location (Centennial Park), and now we’re able to upgrade to a food truck next. We’re slowly growing, and we couldn’t do it without the patronage and the support of the community, we’re so blessed.”

The heat wave saw temperatures in the Peace Region reach low to mid 30’s during the second week of July.
