Community input regarding the Jackfish Community Hall’s future has been sought by the Peace River Regional District (PRRD).

The Community Hall is owned by the PRRD and operated by the Jackfish Lake Community Club, located outside of Chetwynd at 1515 Old Jackfish Road.

An evaluation in 2021 and further damage in January 2024 from a heating system failure, has confirmed that the hall needs major repairs, ongoing maintenance and safety upgrades, including issues with fire protection and accessibility.

With no reliable funding source, the facility has operated using short-term grants and local fundraising, however this was insufficient. The building has been closed since 2021.

As part of its long-term planning, the PRRD is asking residents to participate in a community meeting and online survey to provide input on three key questions: does the hall continue to be a valued community space, is there support for a dedicated funding model including taxation and are volunteers available to continue managing day-to-day operations.

Residents can share their input by completing the online survey at haveyoursay.prrd.bc.ca/JCH, which will will remain open from August 28 until September 15, closing at 4:30 p.m.

For those who prefer a paper version, surveys are available at the community meeting as well as at PRRD offices in Dawson Creek (1981 Alaska Avenue) and Fort St. John (9595 100 Street).

The next steps for the hall’s operation will be decided by the PRRD Regional Board following the community’s feedback.
