Laura Möller (28) and Antonia Staucke (27) have traveled by bike across 15 countries and 2 continents, raising funds for the non-profit organization World Bicycle Relief on their way to Anchorage, Alaska.

“The journey for us began in October 2022, we started in Ushuaia which is the southernmost city in South America. We both liked cycling and were cyclist before in Germany for fun, but it was also a way of transportation for us while we went to university. Of course we wanted to go on a big adventure, but we also wanted to do it for charity and for it to support a good cause and that’s why we decided to raise money for World Bicycle relief,” said Antonia Staucke.

The charitable nature of the Peace was evident as residents were quick to offer shelter for the pair, who have been utilizing various forms of social media to arrange accommodations along their journey.

World Bicycle Relief collaborates with individuals in rural communities worldwide, providing them access to specially designed bicycles known as Buffalo Bicycles. To date, the pair have raised more than €16,000 Euros (equivalent to about $23,000 CAD) for their campaign.

“Apart from just having a physical and a mental challenge for us, we also wanted to show that woman can accomplish such a trip. In cycling, the majority practicing it is men, so doing a trip just the two of us hopefully inspires other woman to go for such an adventure,” says Möller.

The two are getting closer to their goal as they head up the Alaska highway on their way to Anchorage, where they have booked return flights on August 3.

“Once we get back to Germany, we plan to finish our master’s degree. Antonia studies geography, and I study geography and English to become a teacher,” said Möller. “We’re also excited to see our friends and family of course, and to have our routines back.”
