The second annual ABC Recycling’s Scrap Drive was a smashing hit in the North Peace, raising a staggering $22,102 with roughly 150 tons of scrap that was donated in support of local healthcare.

The Summer Scrap Drive ran from July 1st to September 1st and encouraged the community to bring their scrap to ABC Recycling in support of the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation and to improve local healthcare here in Fort St. John.

“We saw a lot more donations from the general public this year compared to last year,” said McLean Welsh, Commercial Buyer at ABC Recycling. “What I really noticed was that this year the engagement from the public was a lot more - lots of phone calls in to the office and many small loads that came in for donation. The people are now behind this drive and it can only go up from here.”

The drive gave people a reason to get out, connect with neighbours, and feel good about pitching in for a local cause. For many, it was less about dropping off scrap and more about being part of something that brought the community together. Josh Gilmour from Element Disposal accepted the Bischoff Trophy this year for being the top contributor.

“Thank you to ABC Recycling for doing all the heavy lifting,” said Kelly Amboe, Executive Director of the FSJ Hospital Foundation in a media release. “The generosity of our community continues to amaze us - we’re so grateful for everyone who contributed.”

This year the Bischoff Trophy was accepted by Josh Gilmour from Element Disposal for being the top contributor.
