Residential neighbourhood damaged in targeted shooting

RCMP officers remained at a northeast Fort St. John neighbourhood Thursday after shots were fired near the 9700 block and 108 Avenue, with councillor Trevor Bolin saying up to three homes and one vehicle were hit during what has been described as a targeted shooting.

Bolin said no injuries have been reported while RCMP officers continue investigating the incident, adding that council has been in communication with police as officers remain on scene gathering information.

"This is and was scary for residents in the neighbourhood and surrounding area, so please be understanding as the RCMP investigate," Bolin wrote in a public update shared Thursday morning.

According to Bolin, anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the RCMP at their earliest opportunity, with more information expected as investigators continue their work in the area.

"My thoughts are with those of you living in the vicinity and the concern for your families safety," Bolin wrote. "Council does not take this lightly and will exhaust all resources in our ability to get answers and preserve neighborhood safety."
