Community generosity set to make another big impact

Three local organizations will have the opportunity to share their stories with the community this September, with one of them set to receive what could be more than $10,000 after members cast their votes at the latest 100 Women Who Care Fort St. John giving event.

100 Women Who Care Fort St. John has announced Nenan Dane Zaa Deh Zona Family Services Society, Stage North Theatre Society and the Fort St. John & District Palliative Care Society as the three organizations selected to present at this year's Sept. 29 event at the Lido Theatre.

For anyone who hasn't attended one of these evenings before, the concept is pretty straightforward, bringing together women from across the community who each purchase a $100 ticket before hearing from the three nominated organizations and deciding where the money will go.

Each organization will have the chance to explain who they are, the work they do throughout the community and how receiving the donation would help, before everyone in attendance casts a single vote to determine which group receives the night's collective contribution.

With more than 100 women typically taking part, the successful organization can walk away with well over $10,000 in funding before the evening comes to a close, with every dollar staying right here in the local community.

"Every event reminds us what is possible when women come together with a shared purpose," the steering committee for 100 Women Who Care Fort St. John said.

"We're honoured to showcase three organizations that are making a meaningful difference in our community. While only one charity will receive the collective donation that evening, every nominee gains valuable exposure and the opportunity to connect with new supporters."

Doors at the Lido Theatre will open at 5:30 p.m., giving attendees plenty of time to visit with one another, enjoy refreshments and enter the evening's door prize draws before presentations officially begin at 7 p.m.

This year's gathering will also include an update from the Fort St. John Men's Shed, which was selected during the March 10, 2026 giving event and received $11,735 to support its work in the community.

Representatives from the organization will return to share how the funding has already been used, giving members an opportunity to see the impact their collective donation has made over the past several months.

Since launching in 2017, the volunteer-run giving circle has hosted 12 giving events and raised a combined $199,965 for organizations throughout Fort St. John, with the upcoming September fundraiser marking the group's 13th community giving event.

Tickets are $100 each and include one vote toward deciding which of the three nominated organizations will receive the entire community donation raised during the evening.
