The truck was welcomed during a traditional “push-in” ceremony held Friday, Feb. 13 at the City of Dawson Creek Fire Hall. Officials said the ceremony is a long-standing fire service tradition, where firefighters physically push a new engine into the hall for the first time.

Through the Dawson Creek–Pouce Coupe Rural Fire Protection service agreement, this specialized fire engine was purchased by the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) and will be used by Dawson Creek Fire Rescue, supporting rural responses according to the release.

“Our partnership with the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is critical to keeping residents safe, both in the city and throughout rural areas,” said Mayor Darcy Dober, City of Dawson Creek. “We’re very pleased to see this new fire truck supporting our Fire Rescue team and enhancing our ability to respond where and when we’re needed most.

Officials say the new all-wheel drive truck is designed to handle the unique challenges of emergency response across the Peace River Region, and Dawson Creek Fire Rescue will provide fire protection to rural areas surrounding the city using the new fire truck.

This new fire truck is designed for rural conditions,” said Leonard Hiebert, Vice Chair of the PRRD. “Residents outside of city boundaries deserve reliable, modern emergency response. The investment reflects our commitment to rural protection for our residents. Through our Rural Fire Protection service agreement with the City of Dawson Creek-Pouce Coupe, we’re able to put top-quality equipment in the hands of experienced firefighters who already know and serve our communities. It’s a smart model for regional service delivery.

For local residents, the new fire engine represents another step toward stronger protection and preparedness for the communities served by Dawson Creek Fire Rescue.
