North Peace locals gathered at the Lido Theatre on March 10 for the 12th semi-annual 100 Woman Who Care event, which successfully raised more than $10,000 for the Fort St. John Men's Shed.
Twice a year, once in March and once in September, this amazing initiative brings woman from the community together to help make a difference for one of three nominated local organizations.
The event gives the nominees several minutes each to introduce and represent their cause while explaining what they would be using the funds for when they to win. Following the presentations, attendees are given time to consider and cast their votes to determine which organization would receive a helping hand from 100 Women Who Care.
The three nominations for the event held on March 10 were the Fort St. John Men’s Shed, KidSport – North Peace, and Friends of the Fort St. John Public Library. The Men’s Shed was selected as the winner of the $11,770 which was raised through ticket sales, following three powerful and thoughtful presentations.
“Congratulations to Fort St. John Men's Shed - FSJMS for winning $11,770 at tonight’s 100 Women Who Care event. Your work makes a real difference in Fort St. John,” wrote organizers on the 100 Women Who Care Fort St John Facebook page.
“This was our 12th event, and together we have now raised $200,000 for local non-profits. That is the power of a community that comes together with purpose.”
The FSJ Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102 also gave a presentation, showing the accomplishments and differences which were made possible after they were selected as the winner for last September’s event.
