Man flashes fake firearm, gets real Arrest

Last week, Fort St. John RCMP arrested a man after he was reported to be brandishing a firearm in a residential neighborhood.

Local RCMP received a report that a man flashing a pistol at a member of the public while walking on July 17 at 9: 55 p.m near 87 Street and 99 Avenue.

Officers were quickly dispatched to the area and found two people, one of whom was intoxicated and matched the suspect’s description.

 

The man was arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and the black pistol he had was seized at the scene, before later determining the gun to be a BB gun.

 

“Because the Fort St John RCMP take firearms calls very seriously, calls of this nature will always draw a significant police response,” said Constable Chad Neustaeter, Fort St. John RCMP Media Relations Officer. “Thank you to the public who saw something they knew wasn’t right and reported it to police in the interest of public safety”.

 

The man was taken to the Fort St. John RCMP detachment and later released on an Undertaking with protective conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on November 24, 2025, according to the release.
