It is with profound sadness that our family shares the unexpected news that our mom, our dad's loving wife and our children's and grandchildren's "Nanny" has passed away. During the night as she slept, she passed peacefully into eternity. Though we are grieving her loss, we are comforted by the knowledge that she is at peace.
Born July 3, 1941, to Cyril and Dorothy Duncan, Gayle graduated from Thurmont High School, class of 1959. After graduation, she worked for Sutton Construction - Conway Electric Company, owned by Esli Sutton Conway, who had a son named Michael. On September 9, 1961, Gayle married Michael Conway, and together they embarked on an adventure that took them to Fort Worth, Texas, Anchorage, Alaska, Maryland, Albuquerque, New Mexico while Mike served in the US Air Force. During this time she lost everything they owned in a house fire. In the winter of 1973, they immigrated to Canada, moving their family to Fort St. John, BC, and established their home in the community they would serve for decades to come.
Together they established Conway Electric Inc. in 1978, and Gayle worked alongside Mike, balancing bookkeeping responsibilities with raising their family for many years. Her contributions were instrumental to the business's success.
She had a flamboyant personality with a bubbly laugh and was a great encouragement to many people. Gayle was passionate about her Christian faith and served in her church community over the years in various ways. Her door was always open to all who needed hospitality, and in the early 1970s and 1980s, she often served dinner for dozens of people who were in town from the rural communities.
Gayle was the life of the party, always telling stories with vivid detail and bringing great joy to many with her warm and bubbly disposition. One of her most remembered stories was about flying her kite in her penny loafers as a young girl.
Gayle was predeceased by her parents, Cyril and Dorothy Duncan; her siblings Donna Clevenger and Donald Duncan; her daughter Laura Conway; and her grandson Garret Conway.
Left to grieve her loss are her husband Mike of Fort St. John, BC; her children Donna of Fort St. John, BC, Russ (Yanna) of Deerfield Beach, FL, Krista of Kamloops, BC, Karen of Grande Prairie, AB, and DeAnne of Fort St. John, BC; her siblings Alan Duncan, Larry Duncan, and Charity Mumma; along with her 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service was held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Christian Life Centre, 8923 112 Avenue, Fort St. John, BC. Internment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christian Life Center.
