The local RCMP are warning the public about a fake gold scam that recently took place in the community.

A potential gold scam in the community was recently reported to the Norther Rockies RCMP on Monday, August 18.
Two adults were reportedly travelling in a black Dodge Caravan with Ontario plates, and had been flagging down motorists along Highway 97, roughly 35km North of Pink Mountain.
The owner of the vehicle is said to have a history of selling fake gold in order to buy fuel, according to the RCMP media release.
Police were responding to the call when they encountered two more individuals who were believed to be connected to the “gold-for-gas” fraud scheme, who were driving a black Audi Q7 which also had Ontario plates.
The local RCMP arrested all four suspects and while searching their vehicle following the arrest, they discovered and seized a quantity of fake gold, cash, and rolls of quarters that had been hidden inside the center console.
“We want the public to be know that this type of fraud has come to our community. Be aware of what someone is offering for sale as it may not be what you think it is,” said Sgt. Christian Drabosenig NCO i/c Northern Rockies RCMP.
