Construction which began August 8 has wrapped up, and the boat launch has re-opened for the tail end of the season.
The Charlie Lake Boat Launch
The City of Fort St. John announced on their social media that the boat launch reopened on Friday, August 30. The boat launch was extended by crews during the closure to prevent future damage to watercraft, and the boat launch itself.
According to a post on social media from the City of Fort St. John, the construction was able to achieve a better result than the design - a further 3.5% downward grade on the new matting.
In order to prevent gravel build up and extend the boat launch, additional matting was installed further into the lake.
Between the lakebed at the end of the matting and the top of the concrete mats there is less than 4 inches.
These upgrades had a budget of $210,000, which was funded by the Peace River Agreement according to the City’s website.
Alternative boat launches at Beatton Provincial Park and Charlie Lake Provincial Park which, remained available during the construction.
