The FSJ Hospital Foundation recently announced the opening of registration for this event, which is one of the largest annual fundraisers in the North Peace.
More than 900 individuals have participated over the last 25 years, collectively raising $2.4 million according to the FSJ Hospital Foundation website.
The money that has been raised over the years through Bluey Day has been used to help purchase essential medical equipment for early cancer diagnosis and treatment in Fort St. John.
Currently there are only 2 clinics in northeastern BC that provide systemic cancer therapy such as chemotherapy, one of those being the Fort St. John Community Cancer Centre.
Bluey Day fundraising has strengthened our hospital’s ability to diagnose and treat cancer, while this effort not only saves lives but also enhances the quality of care right here in Fort St. John.
With the addition of advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment, patients can receive top-quality care comparable to larger centers, all while staying close to home, supported by family and friends.
Individuals taking part in Bluey Day will use the next few months to grow their hair while raising funds through community pledges and on the big day, they will shave their heads to show their support.
Bluey Day is set for May 24 at Centennial Park and will be open to the public.
