Home, through the eyes of the Peace

A new exhibit at Peace Gallery North is inviting visitors to see the Peace Region through the eyes of local artists, with the latest monthly showcase exploring what the idea of “home” means across the region.

The gallery recently opened ‘Peace River: Home is...’, an exhibit featuring artists from the Peace River Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists. The exhibit began with a well-attended grand opening on May 9, where locals came to view the collection and meet some of the artists behind the work while enjoying complimentary snacks and drinks.

“The grand opening was very nice. This was actually our first Saturday afternoon opening since I started allowing artists to choose between Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons,” said Bev, Peace Gallery North’s Curator to the Alaska Highway News. “It worked out quite well because spring recitals were happening in the building at the same time, so there were different visitors coming through the gallery that may not otherwise have attended.”

This exhibit features remarkable works from some of the most talented individuals within the Peace, with amazing paintings of bull moose, buck deer, birds, breathtaking landscapes and more than one which told a story.

The theme asked artists to reflect on an idea that can mean something different to everyone. For some, home may be tied to landscapes and familiar places, while for others it may center around memories, people, or community connections.

The exhibit marks the latest monthly showcase at Peace Gallery North and continues the gallery’s role as a space for local and regional artists to share their work with the community.

Peace Gallery North is located in the North Peace Cultural Centre and is open to the public during open hours which are Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-5pm.

Visitors can stop by the gallery to view the exhibit and explore the different interpretations of “home” presented through the collection.
