Two individuals were pronounced dead, and one was transported to Vancouver following a serious highway crash north of Pink Mountain earlier last week.

According to Fort St. John RCMP, general duty officers and the BC Highway Patrol were called to a two-vehicle collision involving two tractor trailer units, which occurred during adverse winter driving conditions at around 1:39 pm on December 8.

Police say two men were pronounced deceased at the scene, and a third man was taken by ambulance to the Fort St. John airport where he was then airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital for further medical treatment.

RCMP say the two deceased victims were a 74-year-old man and a 21-year-old man from Alberta. Police are not releasing their names at this time.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation, but police believe poor road conditions, blowing snow and restricted visibility all played a factor in the crash.

"The road conditions on the Alaska Highway between Fort St. John and Fort Nelson are very poor and any unnecessary travel is not advised,” said Cpl. Andrew McElwain- Fort St. John RCMPRCMP from Fort St. John are investigating the incident in conjunction with the BC Coroners Service.
