The PRRD wants your input on local hazards

People across the Peace River Regional District are being asked what concerns them when it comes to hazards in their own communities, with another round of public engagement getting underway this month as work continues on a new regional Hazard, Risk and Vulnerability Analysis.

From Aug. 11 through Aug. 23, the PRRD and its municipal partners will be holding community events in different parts of the region, while an online survey will also be available for people who would rather provide their input that way.

Some of this work has already been done earlier this year, when residents were first asked about the hazards and risks they see as being important in the communities where they live.

For this second round, the conversation moves a little further, with the PRRD sharing what they heard during that earlier engagement and looking to residents again, this time for input on what could be done to help reduce the risks already identified.

The Hazard, Risk and Vulnerability Analysis, more commonly shortened to HRVA, is required under British Columbia's Emergency and Disaster Management Act, and is used to calculate risk scores for hazards including wildfires, flooding, windstorms and utility outages.

Technical analysis and professional judgement are also used when looking at possible risk management actions, but understanding what residents see as important is another piece of that work, helping focus those actions on the priorities of people who actually live here.
