The BC Speedskating Championship wraps up in Fort St. John

Skaters, coaches and families from around British Columbia descended on Fort St. John last weekend for a busy and action-packed BC Speedskating Championships on home ice.

Hosted by Fort St. John, this year’s provincial championship showcased speedskaters of all ages darting around the oval, accompanied by the community spirit of a North Peace crowd.
Numerous volunteers, event organizers and hometown supporters came together to welcome more than 130 athletes to the North Peace, ensuring they had a great weekend in Northern BC.
“It’s been great to see so many athletes and families in Fort St. John this weekend,” said an event volunteer. “Everyone has been really excited to be here.”
The weekend began with an Academy on Friday, which was followed by a weekend of fast paced competition that emphasized months of planning and passion for the sport.
Athletes between the ages of 4- 60 competed at the championship for ranking in their respective age groups within British Columbia according to Fort St. John Elks Speed Skating Club.
Many locals stopped in to view the action of speedskating at a competitive level, while supporting their hometown athletes and cheering on visitors from around the province.Great results, fun memories and plenty of video highlights made for another successful Speedskating Championship.
