Multiple reports of shots fired in the North Peace have resulted in the arrest of Kelly Shular.
A suspect has been identified in a home invasion with a firearm in Fort St. John, which was reported to the RCMP on May 11, around 12:30am.
Shortly after around 1:30am, the local police received reports of shots fired in the area of 92nd Street and 113th Avenue according to a media release. RCMP located a vehicle at the residence with what appeared to be bullet holes in it.
Surrounding properties and the residence were checked by officers, finding that no one was injured.
“Fortunately no one was injured during the shooting. It appears to be targeted at a residence known to police,” says Cpl. Brett Urano, RCMP spokes person, “Police do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the public.”
The local police received another report of shots fired the same day at around 6pm, at a residence on the 269 Road in the area of 240 Road.
RCMP responded quickly in all three incidents, securing the scenes, obtaining statements and conducting area searches.
Kelly Shular, a property rep for the 269 Road address, was arrested on May 12 and held in custody for the first shooting.
Multiple charges have already been approved against Shular including use of a firearm in commission of an offence, break and enter, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to order, and possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose.
“That was a busy day with multiple reports of shots fired and the detachment response was fantastic with public safety being paramount,” said Sergeant Ian Rissanen, Plain Clothes Unit Commander for the Fort St. John RCMP. “All of the shooting events of the weekend are believed to be related to the Fort St. John drug trade. All members of the Fort St. John RCMP, including our specialized investigative units, continue to strive to ensure public safety by targeting the illicit drug trade.”
A judge remanded Shular into custody until his next court appearance on June 4, while RCMP continue to investigate the events of the weekend. The police are asking that anyone with information regarding these matters contact the Fort St. John RCMP at 250-787-8100.
