The captain began his journey in July 1991, as a volunteer, which led to him being hired full-time in September 1999.

Dawson Creek Fire Department (DCFD) shared to their Facebook page on May 1st, “Known for his quiet presence, steady leadership, and calm approach in any situation, Captain Reitsma has been a reliable force in the station and on the fireground. He didn’t say much, but when he did, people listened. He led with consistency, respect, and a clear sense of responsibility.”

“He’s been a mentor to many and a solid example of what it means to serve with humility and purpose. While he never looked for recognition, his impact has been felt by those who worked beside him. We thank you, Captain Reitsma, for the years of service, and we wish you the best in your next chapter.”

Reitsma is retiring after spending nearly 34 years with the DCFD, serving the people and protecting the community.
