RCMP looking for witnesses after shooting on Fort Nelson First Nation Reserve
Northern Rockies RCMP are looking for witnesses and video footage after a shooting on the Fort Nelson First Nation Reserve left one person seriously injured late last month.
Police say they first became aware of the incident around 2:40 a.m. on Sept. 26, after receiving reports of a fight near the 5000-block of Dene Etene Road.
When officers arrived at the residence, they learned one person had been shot and had already been taken to hospital. The victim suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Two suspects were arrested as part of the investigation, while police say a third person remains outstanding.
“Police officers have arrested two suspects in this incident, while a third suspect remains outstanding. The two arrested were released back into the community on conditions and with future court dates. Investigators believe this to be a targeted event with no ongoing safety risk to the public,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, BC RCMP spokesperson for Northern B.C.
RCMP have not released the identities of the suspects or provided any additional information about what may have led up to the shooting.
Investigators are now asking anyone who knows where the remaining suspect may be, or who has information that could help with the investigation, to come forward.
Police are particularly interested in any surveillance or dash camera footage connected to the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Northern Rockies RCMP at 250-774-2700 and reference file 2026-2211.
The investigation remains ongoing.
