A Bike Rack Design Artist Call was launched in 2024 by the Fort St. John Community Arts Council and the City, which allowed local artists to submit their ideas for functional public art.

Twenty artistic bike racks have since been installed around the city which were fabricated by ArcTech Welding according to the release, utilizing ten winning designs from the artist call.

The Utility Box Art Wrap Program was also launched in 2024 by the City, which called on artists who had connections to the North Peace to submit designs reflecting places and people in the community.

Several creative and colorful wraps have already been installed around the downtown core according to the City, deterring graffiti vandalism while supporting artistic development within our community.

Artist in Residence Francine Freeman was also busy this summer in the North Peace, as she completed a series of mini murals on the portable barricades located near the green space at the corner of 100 Street and 100 Avenue.

“These projects reflect Fort St. John’s commitment to fostering creativity, enhancing public spaces, and supporting local artists. Residents are encouraged to explore and enjoy these new additions to our cityscape,” stated Mayor Lilia Hansen, in a media release.
