The PRRD is working on a new Regional Zoning Bylaw to replace the five existing zoning bylaws according to a media release, some of which have been in place since 1976.
A public survey has been launched by the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) to gather input on regulations for accessory buildings, home-based businesses, secondary suites, and detached suites.
This survey marks the initial phase in creating a new Regional Zoning Bylaw, and the community feedback will play a key role in shaping the bylaw and informing future engagements.
“We’re creating a unified Regional Zoning Bylaw that reflects the needs and priorities of our communities and simplifies regulations,” said Board Chair Leonard Hiebert. “Public input is crucial to shape a new bylaw that will work for everyone in our region.”
The online survey will be available from March 20 to May 30, until 4:30 PM (PST). Printed copies can be obtained at PRRD offices in Dawson Creek (1981 Alaska Avenue) and Fort St. John (9505 100 Street). Participation does not require registration, and all responses will remain anonymous while in-person engagement sessions are planned for the fall of 2025.
This effort aims to establish a single, cohesive bylaw that will serve regional communities better. The new bylaw will bring several benefits including improved accessibility, updated regulations based on community feedback and less red tape to support local industries.
