Business owners in rural communities across the Peace River region can now upgrade their storefronts, with new funding from the Peace River Regional District.
Â
Thanks to financial contribution from the Northern Development Trust Initiative, the PRRD has created a Business Facade Improvement Program for 2026 targeting commercial corridors outside of municipal areas.
Â
Owners will be able to access reimbursement grants covering up to 50 per cent of eligible expenses, to a maximum of $5,000 per project. The program also allows for annual grants, up to the maximum amount each year, for new or incremental facade improvements.
Â
Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2026, and approved projects must be completed by Dec. 31, 2026. Funds will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Â
The program is available for businesses operating within the PRRD’s Mandatory Building Permit Area, defined as rural areas that fall within the regional district but outside of any city, town or village, and located in appropriately zoned areas.
Â
The work must focus on the facade of a building, also known as the front-facing exterior, to ensure the biggest visual impact for the community.
Â
The district says the program aims to create attractive commercial corridors, foster community pride and build a welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors to the region.
