The competition will have at least 14 secondary and post-secondary trades students from the Peace River Regional District.
This group of students excelled in various trades and technology fields while competing in regional events that were held between February 13-21 in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John.
These events included welding, hairstyling, cabinetmaking, carpentry, photography, graphic design, video production, aesthetics, and aerospace.
Provincial competition winners will advance to the national event in Regina on May 29-30, where top performers will secure a place on Team Canada and compete at WorldSkills 2026.
WorldSkills is an Olympic-style skills competition that is set in September next year, in Shanghai, China.
Skills Canada BC organizes competitions across the province each year, providing secondary and post-secondary trade students with a platform to showcase their skills.
More than 1,800 students are expected to participate in the regional competitions in 2025.
The provincial competition’s 31st year will showcase 54 skill areas, including animation, hairstyling, plumbing, car painting, photography, and more. Each competition includes designated tasks and rules, with judges evaluating participants' skills and performance.
The event is open to the public and provides a chance to network with industry leaders and experts.
A booth at the provincial competition will be set up by Enbridge, an energy transportation company operating a natural gas pipeline system across the province to share information about career opportunities in the pipeline industry.
As part of its community giving program, Enbridge has donated $5,000 to support the event, emphasizing its commitment to empowering young people through education and skills development according to their release.
