Peace Region firefighter hospitalized following highway incident

Dawson Creek Fire Crews were responding to a single motor vehicle incident just before      8 am near the Groundbirch area on Highway 97 South in bad weather, when Captain Brooks Gower was struck by a passing vehicle.

Gower was immediately transported to the Chetwynd Hospital before needing to be flown to Prince George to receive further treatment according to a Dawson Creek Fire Fighters Association’s Facebook post.


“Brooks is currently stable, had an 8-hour surgery to repair multiple leg fractures, 1 broken arm and he has multiple spinal fractures and broken ribs,” wrote Gower’s wife Tryna on her social media.

“The fact he is alive and is expected to walk again is an absolute miracle and we ask to keep your prayers going. He’s in a fragile state of recovery and are asking for time to heal.”

 

Gower suffered 9 broken ribs, 5 broken vertebrae’s, 2 broken legs and 1 broken arm according to his wife Tryna Gower, who has been posting updates on Facebook regarding his recovery.

 

“We would like to thank our colleagues at BC Ambulance and the Dawson Creek RCMP Detachment, as well as the civilians on scene that assisted with his treatment,” said Dawson Creek Fire Fighters Association officials online
