One deceased after an incident in Mackenzie, BC.

At approximately 2pm on June 1, Mackenzie RCMP responded to a report of a male who was trying to cash a fraudulent cheque at a bank.

The RCMP officers responding quickly arrested the man, and while escorting the male outside a struggle ensued, in which the individual reportedly produced a weapon according to the media release.

One of the police officers reportedly discharged their firearm which struck the man. Emergency Health Services transported the male to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The police actions in the incident are being investigated by the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC), and no further information will be released by police as the IIO BC is investigating the matter.
