Old cars, good people and a Saturday afternoon in the North Peace

There were some pretty unreal cars parked around Fort City Chrysler on Saturday as people made their way down to the dealership for a few hours of classic cars, food, music and everything else happening throughout the afternoon.

The event was pretty busy when we stopped in Saturday afternoon as people walked between the vehicles taking pictures, looking under the hoods and finding another car every few minutes that was probably worth stopping for.

That’s one of the things we like about a car show around the North Peace, you don't really need to know everything happening under the hood to appreciate the amount of work somebody has put into what's sitting in front of you.

There were obviously some vehicles down there that have seen a lot of time and care over the years, and getting them out of the garage and together in one place is half of what makes these smaller local shows worth checking out.

The Fort City Classic Car Show ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 22, with music, games, prizes and a food truck throughout the afternoon.

There was a little more to the day than showing off some nice cars though, with Fort City Chrysler also collecting donations for the Women's Resource Society.

Organizers were accepting cash, non-perishable food, toiletries, baby items and lightly used clothing for the organization, giving people another way to help out locally while they were already stopping in to have a look around.

For something that only took up a few hours of a Saturday there was quite a bit happening with lots of people around, some good food and certainly no shortage of cars worth pulling the phone out for.

Maybe that's part of why these smaller events are always nice to see around Fort St. John, they don't have to be anything complicated, sometimes getting people together for a few hours is more than enough.

And judging by the number of people walking around, visiting and taking a closer look at the cars on Saturday, there were quite a few people who seemed more than happy to spend part of their afternoon doing exactly that.

I'd call that a pretty successful car show.
