The last full moon of the summer is here and will ride across the Peace Region’s night sky on August 8th, giving sky-gazers the opportunity to view the full moon in spectacular fashion at its brightest point.

The “Sturgeon Moon” is the last full moon of the summer, which takes its name from the giant lake sturgeon that once thrived in the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain. Abundant in late summer, these fish were a vital food source for Indigenous peoples according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
