The FSJ Hospital Foundation hosted the 26th annual Bluey Day on May 24th at the Centennial Park in Fort St. John, which welcomed the 1000th individual to ‘be brave and shave’ since the event’s inception.

Bluey Day raised $124,648 according to the media release, going above and beyond the fundraising goal of $100,000. This money will be used to support the Community Cancer Centre in Fort St. John where more than 120 patients are being served at any given time.

Brand new infusion chairs will be purchased with the money that was raised, which are designed to improve patient care and comfort.

“These upgrades will make a real difference in the lives of our patients,” said Kelly Amboe, Executive Director of the FSJ Hospital Foundation. “Every dollar raised, every head shaved, and every person who showed up today is helping us bring further comfort to those facing cancer. We are so proud of our community.”

Friends, family, and supporters all came together for the day of celebration, showcasing the community’s support for local cancer care with this event which featured a charity BBQ, free face painting and carnival games.

Special guests Mayor Lilia Hansen and MLA Jordan Kealy were in attendance and showed their support, as well as members of the Fort St. John RCMP, BC Ambulance Services and the Fort St. John Fire Department.
