Good conversation and a little Divine Instruction

Peace Gallery North was a busy little place Saturday afternoon, as local artist David Thiessen opened Divine Instruction, bringing out a pretty good crowd for the first afternoon of his latest exhibit.
There is plenty of faith behind the paintings hanging on the walls this time around, with Thiessen looking at biblical teachings, themes and values through his work, while a handwritten statement at the gallery explains a little more about what he hopes people take home with them.
“I hope that everyone who sees this show will be challenged and encouraged to study the Bible, God's word, for themselves and be born again,” wrote Thiessen.
Thiessen also points people toward John 3:3, John 3:36 and John 14:6 in that statement, leaving little question about where the inspiration behind Divine Instruction comes from, or what he hopes somebody might think about while walking through it.
There was more to Saturday afternoon than the paintings though, with live music in the gallery, beverages and snacks to go around, and plenty of good conversations happening as people wandered through, stopped at different pieces and visited with one another.
It was well attended while I was down there, and there wasn't much rush to the afternoon either, with people taking their time around the room, talking about the work and simply enjoying another opening at the gallery.
For anyone who didn't make it Saturday, Divine Instruction isn't going anywhere just yet, with Thiessen's work staying on the walls through Sept. 26 and plenty of time over the next few weeks to stop in and see it.
The exhibit is free to view at Peace Gallery North, with the gallery open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
