More than 60 teams were competing for pond hockey glory throughout the three-day tournament, which took place on Charlie Lake last weekend.

Nearly 10 acres on the south end of Charlie Lake were plowed and prepared for this event which included 10 rinks and space for food and beverage vendors.

The Fort St. John Rotary Club hosted Saturday’s and Sunday’s kids’ events which included of marshmallow roasting, complementary hot chocolate and tobogganing.

The tournament included the much-loved Sid Davis Memorial Championship for youth, which honors long-time minor hockey coach Sid Davis, who passed away in 2017.

Mother nature had other plans for the weekend unfortunately and with the warmer weather came unfavorable ice conditions for those competing.

For the first time since the launch of the Crystal Cup in 2012, boots were an option due to the deteriorating ice conditions on Charlie Lake, which became quite wet as the weather warmed.

Outdoor hockey creates a sense of community that arenas often can't replicate. It inspires spontaneous games, social gatherings, and a shared love for the outdoors.
