This phase includes replacing underground utilities, reconstructing the roadway, and installing new sidewalks and streetlighting along 89 Avenue from 78A Street to 86 Street. The first phase of this project was completed in 2023.

Council awarded the current phase of the project to Knappett Industries, a Fort St. John-based company earlier this year.

The total project budget is $7.2 million and is being financed through alternative funding sources such as the Peace River Agreement and dedicated water and sewer reserve funds, rather than through property tax revenues.

Recognizing the effects of industrial activity beyond municipal limits, the Peace River Agreement delivers critical funding to eight local governments in Northeast B.C.

The City of Fort St. John has allocated more than $400 million from this agreement since 1994, enhancing infrastructure, community livability, and overall quality of life for its residents.

Detour routes have been established via 93 Avenue and 78A Street. Motorists are reminded to follow all posted signage and instructions from traffic control personnel, and to reduce speed near construction zones to ensure the safety of workers and the public.

In response to the construction, BC Transit has implemented temporary adjustments to Route 2 Southside and Route 4 Southeast. Temporary bus stops will be installed along the revised routes to accommodate transit users.
