RCMP engaged in a day long manhunt on Sept 11, searching high and low for a Fort St. John man with warrants before making their arrest near Peace Island Park in Taylor, BC.
Just before 10am a Feeney Warrant was executed with the assistance of a Tactical Armored Vehicle at a residence in Fort St John.
Many units were involved in carrying out this warrant including the Fort St John Street Enforcement Team (SET), Peace-Liard Police Dog Services (PDS), the North District Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Fort St. John RCMP Frontline members.
39-year-old Johnathon Michael Peters was wanted on warrants for Uttering Threats, Refusal to Provide a Sample, Mischief Over $5000, Obstructing a Peace Officer and Breach of Release Order.
The Feeney Warrant granted the RCMP entry to search the residence for Peters, however the suspect was no where to be seen.
The police received additional information suggesting Peters might be in Taylor and driving a side by side. Shortly before noon a traffic stop for a side by side was attempted by ERT members, however the vehicle fled into Peace Island Park.
A tracking team, including drones and Air Services monitored Peters and the side by side until it became inoperable along the Pine River on an island.
PDS and ERT members arrested Peters at approximately 2pm, who is now facing additional charges for Flight from a Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance and Obstructing a Peace Officer.
“This was a dynamic and lengthy incident”, said Staff Sergeant Scott Watson of the Fort St. John RCMP, “The outstanding coordination between multiple RCMP units enabled them to safely locate and arrest this individual”.
