Dawson Creek RCMP are investigating after two banks in the city were robbed just four days apart, with police now looking into whether the incidents could be connected.

The first robbery was reported at about 5:36 p.m. on June 19 after officers were called to the RBC branch on 10th Street.

A media release put out by the RCMP said a suspect entered the bank through the east-facing doors wearing a black full-face motorcycle helmet, black jacket, black pants and gloves. Investigators say the suspect was also wearing a ski mask and sunglasses underneath the helmet before allegedly brandishing a weapon and demanding cash.

The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the area on a scooter. RCMP searched the area but were unable to locate anyone matching the description.

Just a few days later, at around 11:06 a.m. on June 23, officers were called again, this time to the Scotiabank branch on 10th Street after another robbery was reported.

According to police, the second suspect was wearing a grey long-sleeve shirt, a hat, black pants, black gloves, sunglasses and a face covering when they allegedly brandished a weapon and demanded cash before leaving on a scooter with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was physically injured during either robbery according to the release.

“The suspects are believed to be male, although no other descriptors are available,” said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP. “While the investigations remain in the early stages, police are working to determine whether there is any connection between the two cases.”

Anyone with information, CCTV footage or dash-camera video that could assist investigators is asked to contact the Dawson Creek RCMP at 250-784-3700.
