A SPOT SOS was activated in a remote area near Mackenzie, B.C, prompting an immediate response from RCMP and SAR.
The Mackenzie RCMP became aware of a SPOT SOS activation on Wednesday, May 21, near Mackenzie, B.C, which was associated to a single engine plane that had been traveling from Williams Lake to Fort St. John.
Mackenzie RCMP, RCMP Air-3, ECC, JRCC and Mackenzie SAR responded to an SOS and located a crash site and a female survivor who appeared to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
A Police Dog Service member was deployed to locate the pilot after RCMP Air-3 was able to locate and land at the scene.
The JRCC’s capability to approach the site with larger air resources was limited due to the poor weather conditions and remote area where the crash site was located.
The pilot was transported by RCMP Air-3 to JRCC resources who were located outside the site according to the media release. A medical assessment was conducted on the pilot before they were transported back to a hospital.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board, and currently there is no indication of criminality.
