10 things to do in the North Peace

-            May 9, Mammoth Forestry Ltd. and Peace River Regional District are hosting a FireSmart Block Party at Baldonnel School from 5 – 7pm. The community is invited to connect with neighbors and wildfire experts, take home FireSmart tips, while enjoying a delicious meal.

 

-            May 9th is Karaoke night at the Fort St. John Legion from 5pm until 1am, featuring a mega meat draw from 5-7pm, karaoke from 7pm-1am, and the kitchen will be open from 5-9pm.

 

-            May 10, the annual Seedling and Plant is taking place between 9am – 2pm at the Farmers Market. There will be seed vegetables, potatoes, flowers, and medicinal herbs (perennials and annuals). With the last frost date being mid-May, this is the BEST time to get these quality seedlings for your garden.

 

-            May 10 is the Dr. Kearney Middle School Craft fair where you can find home décor, jewelry, baked goods, wooden games, and handmade gifts. The event will take place between 10am and 3pm, featuring various vendors and local fundraisers from our community.

 

-            May 10th is a yard waste drop off at the North Peace Arena for city residents during the summer, provided by the city. Accepted materials are leaves and grass clippings, plant trimmings, sod, twigs and branches. Not accepted items are bags, processed lumber, trees (longer than 6 feet or more than 2 inches in diameter), food scraps or dog waste, cement, rocks or dirt.

 

-            May 14th is the monthly gathering for the FSJ Cancer Support Circles Society at the Northern Lights College in the Indigenous Gathering Room, taking place between 6:30 – 8pm.

 

-            May 15th is Wheelchair Basketball at Margaret Ma Murray Community School, and every ‘body’ is welcome to join and try. There is no cost associated with this event which runs between 5:15 – 6:45pm.

 

-            May 15th is Knit Night at the Fort St. John Public Library where you can drop by between 4:30 – 6pm. This event is for all levels of experience and offers a space for individuals to learn or work on projects in a fun and social space. This event is drop-in, and no registration required.

 

-            May 21st the Northern Lights Racetrack will be hosting work bees the Wednesday before every race, making sure everything is done and ready for the race weekend. Our readers can stop in and lend a hand or get info at the racetrack between 5:30 and 8pm.

 

-            May 23rd  – 25th is the Fort St. John Spring Fair, which will open at 3pm on the Friday. Wrist bands are $55 according to West Cost Amusements website and hours are dependent on weather and guest attendance.
