An equipment shed for minor baseball was burned to the ground over the weekend, throwing the community a curveball the day before the season opens.
A burnt equipment shed was discovered on Sunday, April 27, the day before the season opened according to a social media post from North Peace Minor Baseball.
A variety of equipment was destroyed in the blaze, leaving the organization without pitching machines, chalk machines, umpire gear, bases, along with various maintenance items.
The organization posted an update later the same day. Thanking the numerous members in the community who had reached out and were going to help replace the missing equipment.
“Arson was not part of our insurance, so this was amazing to see how everyone came together for us and the kids. My heart is full because of all of you,” said an representative for North Peace Minor Baseball on their Facebook page.
The spring season begins on April 29th, with the Sidearm National Baseball Camp taking place on May 3rd.
Competitive teams will be playing in the Montney Baseball League according to the North Peace Minor Baseball website, with games starting the second week of May and only being held on weekends.
